Reclassification

C.Tech. to C.E.T.

C.Tech. members who have obtained the necessary qualifications for technologist-level certification may apply for C.E.T. reclassification according to the guidelines outlined below.  All requests for reclassification are reviewed by the ASET Board of Examiners.

Reclassification Fee: $300
ASET Professional Practice Exam Fee (includes GST): $252
Certification Exam Fee (includes GST): $252

Members Applying Within One Year of C.Tech. Certification:

  1. Provide additional application information according to decision letter from the ASET Board of Examiners*

*Applicants are provided with a period of one year in which to reclassify without a reclassification fee
 

Members Applying After One Year of C.Tech. Certification:

A. Non-graduate or Graduate of a Technician, Military, or Apprenticeship program

  1. Please submit the Reclassification Application Form (below) and required documents through email; reclassification applications are not submitted online
  2. Complete a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition portfolio if you are not a graduate of a technical program and have not previously submitted a portfolio or a reclassification program assigned by the Board of Examiners. 
  3. Demonstrate equivalency to a two-year technologist diploma program by passing a certification examination (effective April 1, 2016)
    • The certification examination tests applicants’ skills and knowledge in relation to their field of practice. Discipline-specific exams are available in the Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Petroleum disciplines. All other applicants complete the Fundamentals of Technology examination. Exam manuals are available for download with full information about the examination.
  4. Provide all documentation currently required for C.E.T. applicants (excluding resubmission of any transcripts or foreign credential assessments on file)
  5. Pass the ASET PPE (for members who have not written a PPE, or who wrote the ASET PPE prior to May 2015)

B. Graduate of a two-year Technologist Diploma Program

  1. Please submit the Reclassification Application Form (below) and required documents through email; reclassification applications are not submitted online
  2. Provide all documentation currently required for C.E.T. applicants (excluding resubmission of any transcripts or foreign credential assessments on file)
    • Applicants who are graduates of a program outside of Alberta (Canadian and International) must also pass a certification examination (effective April 1, 2016).
    • The certification examination tests applicants’ skills and knowledge in relation to their field of practice. Discipline-specific exams are available in the Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Petroleum disciplines. All other applicants complete the Fundamentals of Technology examination. Exam manuals are available for download with full information about the examination.
  3. Pass the ASET PPE (for members who have not written a PPE, or who wrote the ASET PPE prior to May 2015)


Please note that the reclassification fee is equivalent to the current C.E.T. application fee.

Reinstatement

C.Tech./C.E.T./R.E.T Members

Former C.Tech. and C.E.T. members who would like to reinstate their membership may do so according to the guidelines outlined below. Former R.E.T. members approved for reinstatement will be reinstated as C.E.T. as the R.E.T. is no longer offered by ASET.

Reinstatement Fee: $300
ASET Professional Practice Exam Fee (includes GST): $252
Certification Exam Fee (includes GST): $252

Retired Member Returning to Active Practice:

  1. Submit Member Status Change Form
  2. Provide proof of CPD compliance

*Application reviewed by Regulatory Compliance Officer. If approved, you will be invoiced prorated dues based on the date of reinstatement.
 

Paid for Membership Less Than 1 Year Ago:

A. Cancelled for Non-Compliance with CPD

  1. Submit reinstatement form and pay reinstatement fee
  2. Provide proof of CPD compliance

*Application reviewed by Registrar. If approved, you will be invoiced prorated dues based on the date of reinstatement.

B. Cancelled for Non-Payment of Dues or Voluntary Resignation

  1. Pay reinstatement fee

Paid for Membership More Than 1 Year Ago and Within 7 Years:

C.Tech. Reinstatement

  1. Submit reinstatement form and pay reinstatement fees
  2. Provide current resume
  3. Provide current reference demonstrating at least 1 year of recent experience
  4. Pass the ASET PPE (for members who have not written a PPE, or wrote the ASET PPE prior to May 2015)

C.E.T. Reinstatement

  1. Submit reinstatement form and pay reinstatement fees
  2. Provide current resume
  3. Provide current reference demonstrating at least 1 year of recent experience
  4. Pass the ASET PPE (for members who have not written a PPE, or wrote the ASET PPE prior to May 2015)
  5. Pass the ASET Technologist Certification Exam (for members who are not graduates of a two-year technologist diploma program within Alberta or who must demonstrate equivalency and have not previously written the exam)

    • You must first be reinstated as a C.E.T. as professional technoligists must be C.E.T. members of ASET in good standing. ASET will coordinate your C.E.T. reinstatement as part of the reinstatement process.
  2. Provide current reference via P.Tech experience spreadsheet
  3. Pass the NPPE (for members who have not written the NPPE)

*Application reviewed by ASET/APEGA Board of Examiners. If approved, you will be invoiced prorated dues based on the date of reinstatement.

Permit Holders

  1. Permit holders who have been cancelled for non-payment of dues must submit an application for reinstatement and pay the current reinstatement fee.

 

Reinstatement Period

  1. Reinstatements will only be processed for up to seven years in alignment with ASET’s records retention policy. Cancelled members who apply for reinstatement after seven years must complete the full application process.
