Transferability
Taking your credential with you
Canada
Certified technicians and technologists may transfer between Canadian provinces. Transfer forms are available from ASET (see Forms).
United States
Certified Technologists have easier access to the United States of America under the Free Trade Agreement. Technologists wishing to enter and work in the USA must be able to prove they possess certain academic qualifications, along with a number of other requirements (written job offer, payment of fees, etc.).
Certification as a C.E.T. has in most cases been recognized in the USA as satisfactory proof of academic qualification, thereby allowing certified technologists to clear that particular hurdle.

Technologists may also be able to transfer their credentials to the USA through an agreement between CCTT and the National Institute of Certified Engineering Technologists (NICET) in the United States.
In many cases, certification in Canada as an engineering technologist (C.E.T.) has been deemed equivalent to the NICET Certified Engineering Technologist (CT) credential, which is attainable in the USA with a bachelor's level degree plus five years of acceptable work experience. A reciprocity agreement was signed by CCTT and NICET in 1995 creating this transferability.

United Kingdom
Transfers to countries using the United Kingdom system of certification have been possible since mid-1994. An agreement signed between CCTT and both the Institute of Electronics and Electrical Incorporated Engineers (IEEIE) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)—the two having since merged to become the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)—allows certified members from Canada to transfer their credentials.
Those who are registered as Incorporated Engineers (I.ENG.) in the UK will be eligible for membership in ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.). Those certified in Canada as technologists (provided they meet the minimum age requirements) will be eligible for the same grade of member in the Institution of Incorporated Engineers as an I.ENG. Certified Technicians (C.Tech.) in Canada will be eligible for the category of Engineering Technician (Eng.Tech.) in the UK and vice versa.
