Certification Process
New: Academic Self-Assessment
The ASET certification process focuses on fulfilling three aspects of technical competence:
- Academics
Your traditional and non-traditional learning is evaluated relative to the National Technology Benchmarks for academics.
- Experience
Your level of practice is evaluated by subject matter experts relative to the requirements for Technician or Technologist.
- Professionalism
All certification applicants complete ASET's Professional Practice Exam as a demonstration of their understanding of their professional rights and obligations.

Certification
Having satisfied the academic and experience requirements for certification, your last step is to write the Professional Practice Exam (PPE). You will be contacted by the ASET Registration Department to schedule an exam date and to get study materials.
Upon successfully passing the PPE, you will gain certification based on your academics and experience:
- At the Technician level, you will gain the use of the C.Tech. (Certified Technician) credential.
- At the Technologist level, you will gain the use of the C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist) credential.
Licensure
Practicing Technologists (C.E.T., R.E.T.) may wish to gain the right to practice engineering independently, within established methodologies and specification, including existing codes and regulations. The P.Tech.(Eng.) (Professional Technologist – Engineering) credential/designation makes this possible. This credential is of interest to members who are working as consultants or running their own business. In addition, senior members within larger organizations may also be interested in exploring the P.Tech.(Eng.) as an option to further their right to practice and expand career options. More »
