Goal Setting
The ASET application form includes a section to indicate your goals for participating in the mentoring program. ASET suggests using SMART Goals.1 The characteristics of SMART goals are described as:

Specific

Goals should be clear and not too complex

Measurable

Progress and completion of goal should be tracked (achieve what/how many/by when)

Attainable

|
Goals need to be achievable and realistic (how can the goal be accomplished)

Relevant

Goals should represent an objective you are willing and able to work towards

Goals should be grounded in time fames by giving them a target date for completion

Examples
- I want to enhance my coaching and counselling skills.
- I want to learn more about mentoring to assist with developing a mentoring program in my own company.
- I want to help a mentee to grow and develop in the profession.
Action Plan
Mentors and mentees in a mentoring partnership are also required to complete the Mentoring Partnership Agreement. This agreement assists with goal-setting, establishing a meeting schedule and expectations, and developing an action plan for the mentee.

Meeting Goals and Agenda – ASET Mentoring Partnership
The following outlines a sample of 16 meetings with your mentee. Your mentoring partnership may vary depending on the needs of the mentee.
