Mentoring Options

Short-Term Career Investigation

In a short-term career investigation, the mentor and mentee will typically correspond via phone or email to answer the mentee's questions.

Orientation and Support
Once a career investigation match has been made, mentors and mentees may connect immediately. ASET staff will support the mentor and mentee during the process.

Evaluation and Recognition
Following the career investigation, mentees are asked to complete an evaluation survey to help ASET continually improve the program.

Longer-Term Mentoring Partnership

Students and junior members seeking more in-depth career advice and support may participate in a mentoring partnership with a senior technology professional.

Orientation and Support
Mentors and mentees matched in a mentoring partnership must attend an orientation session to prepare them for the mentoring relationship.

Following the orientation session, the mentor and mentee will meet in person to discuss and set goals. The mentor and mentee then meet according to a schedule agreed upon by both participants. The time commitment may vary by partnership, but typically involves 16 meetings (ranging from approximately 15 to 60 minutes) over a four-month period.

ASET staff will support the mentor and mentee during the partnership.

Evaluation and Recognition
At the conclusion of the mentoring partnership, mentees are asked to complete an evaluation survey to help ASET continually improve the program. Mentees will also receive a certificate of participation.

Junior ASET members may use participation in the ASET Mentoring Program to fulfill one of their annual Continuing Professional Development requirements (one Peer and Professional Interaction activity).
