CPD is Voluntary for 2010

Continuing Professional Development Program

March 24, 2010

Why Mandatory CPD?

The CPD program is mandatory in 2011 under The EGGP Act and Regulations, and is supported by the ASET Code of Ethics, under which ASET members are responsible for undertaking ongoing professional development to maintain their proficiency and competence.

The ASET CPD Program is based on self-directed learning related to each member’s individual goals. There is no expectation that the member or their employer will incur any additional costs (or that the member will spend any additional time away from work).

Question: Do the activities I currently do to keep up with advancing technology in my workplace, and the activities I do to improve my level of practice count as CPD?

Answer: In almost all instances, YES! A quick test to determine if an activity qualifies for CPD is to ask yourself two questions, “Does this activity make me a better practitioner? And “Does this activity advance the profession? If the answer to either of these two questions is “YES” the activity qualifies as CPD.
