Chief Executive Officer
THE ROLE
ASET is seeking a visionary and results-driven leader to provide strategic visionary focus for the organization. Reporting to a Council of 11, the CEO oversees a team of almost 20 professionals through four direct reports.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in organizational design and management, coupled with exceptional executive leadership skills to steer ASET towards continued growth and influence within the industry.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
- Fostering a collegial, collaborative, and supportive relationship with Council.
- Keeping Council updated on current trends and issues that impact the industry.
- Advising Council of internal and external factors which may impact ASET, recommending changes to policies and legislation and identifying opportunities arising from these factors.
Council Governance
- Work closely with Council provide professionally and technically sound advice to support Council to effective governance, communication, and collaboration.
- Provide timely and accurate information to Council to support decision-making processes.
Operational Leadership
- Ensuring ASET fulfills all its responsibilities as set out in the Engineering and Geosciences Professions Act as well as other relevant legislation and agreements.
- Monitoring program outcomes and making necessary recommendations to ensure appropriate outcomes are achieved.
- Translating the strategic plan into an operational plan for the organization.
- Setting the framework for operational plan delivery through functional departments and assignment of resources.
- Establishing, supporting, and retaining an effective leadership team such that the organization can achieve its mission and priorities, and ensures leadership contingencies are in place.
- Overseeing the development of operational policies and procedures.
- Identifying key challenges and opportunities and providing leadership to support the development of innovative and strategic approaches that enable the achievement of strategic vision.
- Ensuring the organization has a strong commitment to quality and process improvement.
- Fostering a high-quality workplace that reflects the values of the organization by providing strong leadership to staff and demonstrating effective people management skills.
- Oversee the financial health of ASET.
- Develop and present the annual budget to Council for approval.
- Overseeing the development and monitoring of a risk management plan.
Stakeholder Relationships and Relationship Management
- Maintaining effective communication with registrants.
- Interacting with internal and external partners, on a provincial and national level to influence the direction of key organizational initiatives on matters of significant interest.
- Fostering collaboration with stakeholders and partners at all levels.
- Creating a positive image of the organization.
- Ensuring appropriate information flow both within and outside the organization.
- Creating and building commitment to the vision set out by the ASET Council.
- Serving as a role model in the development of an organizational culture that supports the vision, mission, and values of ASET.
Member Engagement and Services
- Enhance member value by developing and implementing initiatives that support professional development, networking, and recognition.
- Foster a strong sense of community among ASET members and ensure their needs and concerns are addressed.
Collaboration and Partnerships
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with industry, all three levels of government, and educational institutions to further ASET's mission and objectives.
- Collaborate with other professional associations to strengthen the collective voice of science and engineering technology professionals.

- Has post-secondary education in a relevant field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Has a proven track record of organizational leadership and change management.
- Has knowledge and experience pertaining to professional self-regulation.
- Demonstrates proven knowledge and expertise in governance and policy.

Internally, this person builds and fosters successful relationships and can manage differing perspectives and opinions. Externally, this person can build relationships with stakeholders of all sorts, with an understanding and appreciation of the broader and political impact to Albertans.
