PLAR Advisors

Help support C.Tech. applicants who require technical assistance with their learning portfolios.  Applicants seeking registration with ASET who have not graduated from an applied science, engineering, or information technology program or who are unable to produce academic transcripts may complete a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) portfolio to demonstrate equivalency to the academic requirements for the C.Tech. designation. ASET is currently looking for volunteers in the Petroleum discipline and the Geological/Geophysical disciplines.

Volunteers must be C.Tech., C.E.T., R.E.T., or P.Tech. members in good standing with a minimum of five years of professional experience with no current open complaints of unprofessional or unskilled practice and no past discipline decisions from ASET or another professional regulatory body.

Subject Matter Experts for File Review (Board of Examiners)

Subject Matter Experts support the work of the Board of Examiners by conducting applicant file reviews and academic assessments. As a Subject Matter Expert you would review files electronically, which provides flexibility to volunteer without relinquishing time spent at work. Disciplines of interest include:

  • Architectural
  • Biomedical
  • Chemical
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Engineering Design & Drafting
  • Survey & Geomatics
  • Welding

Must be a C.Tech., C.E.T., R.E.T., or P.Tech. member in good standing with a minimum of five years of professional experience.

Technology Accreditation Canada Auditors

Technology Accreditation Canada is looking for regulated members to perform audits to determine whether educational programs in various provinces meet the profession’s approved standards and criteria. National Accreditation by TAC is performed by volunteer auditors to determine whether programs meet the profession’s approved standards and criteria.

Volunteers must be C.Tech., C.E.T., R.E.T., or P.Tech. members with at least two years’ experience within their discipline are invited to serve as auditors.

Board of Examiners

The Board of Examiners reviews qualification of C.Tech. and C.E.T. applicants to determine certification eligibility.  Board of Examiners meetings are held at the ASET office in Edmonton on Saturdays.

Volunteers must be certified ASET members in good standing and will be asked to submit a resume/CV to be considered for positions on this Board.  Nominees are forwarded to ASET Council for approval.

The Committee investigates complaints against regulated members of ASET regarding unprofessional conduct, unskilled practice, and violations of the Association’s Code of Ethics and report and provide recommendations to the Discipline Committee, as appropriate.

Pilot Test Writers (Instrumentation Engineering Technology)

ASET is seeking volunteers to assist with the development of a certification exam in the Instrumentation discipline. This examination will be used to confirm that applicants for certification who have not graduated from an accredited program meet the minimum standards of competency in their discipline of practice.

We are seeking ASET members who are currently C.E.T.’s, R.E.T.’s or P.Tech’s to write the draft exam.
